Our Club

We are a small club with a private fishing lake in beautiful and peaceful surroundings with a friendly and enthusiastic membership. New members are especially welcome. Membership fees are £70 for adults and £16 for children under 16 years. Day tickets are £7 for adults and £3 for children. .

Club Events

At this time of year we are visiting rivers and canals in pursuit of the elusive pike. Zeal Monachorum is 5 miles from Copplestone, 2nd turning left off the B3220 to Winkleigh.

Fishing Memorabilia

I collect and restore historic fishing memorabilia. If you have any unwanted such, please email or phone me.

Anglers Welcome

We are looking for people who could attend our meetings and talk about fishing. Do get in touch if you'd like to come and participate.

Selwyn Johnson Cup

In memory of Selwyn Johnson, a much valued resident of Zeal Monachorum, a countryside lover, a great sportsman and a true Englishman, we have established the Selwyn Johnson Memorial Cup. For details about this, or anything else, please send an email to Ken - or telehone Ken on 07749329832.

Spare Gear

It would help our younger fishers if anyone has any fishing gear they no longer require and wish to donate.

Other Websites

I have linked to other fishing websites. These are mostly in Devon. If you have a fishing site and would like it added, do contact Ken.

Important Notice

It is with regret that we have to ask that no-one enters the field before the Fishing Lake other than in a vehicle. The farmer, whose field we have to cross to get to the lake, has told us of a recent incident where the cattle were spooked by a dog, causing them to break out of the field and escape up the lane towards Loosebeare.

Currently the field holds a bull and other cattle. The farmer has made it quite clear that no-one, especially those with dogs, should be walking in the field while there are cattle present.

Club Fees for 2026

Please can all members who wish to fish this year at the lake let us have your fees asap. It is your fees and the proceeds from our fishing club calendar that keep our club going so we need your support to pay for the insurance which is now over £900 per year.

Thanking you all in anticipation.

Calendar photos

We need pictures. Over 18 years we have raised thousands of pounds for different charities with our Fishing Club Calendar and we thank everyone who has purchased one. This year's calendar was something completely different with pictures by kind permission of Andy and Maria Richardson from their holiday in Brazil. Next year we would like local pictures sent in by you by forwarding to zmon.news@gmail.com. We will get the Zeal Photography Club to pick out 12 pictures and there will be a prize for the cover picture. Make it snappy! Sorry for the pun, but we really need your pictures.

June News

I never thought that I would say this, but most days it has been too hot to fish. Work is still being carried out down at the lake with Steve doing the mowing and other remedial work. We are going to install our new generator in the next few weeks. This was kindly purchased with the generous Mid Devon grant. Steve is going to built a unit to house it with sound baffles to minimise the noise. The gosling are doing well and will soon be moving to graze on the adjacent fields.

We are still looking for pictures of local scenes for next year's fishing club calendar. All pictures to be sent jpeg to Mike Russell at zmon.news@gmail.com
